Wake County Jail Roster Overview
The official county-jail roster is the Wake County Sheriff's Office Police-to-Citizen Inmate Inquiry. The P2C system is a free public web application and ordinary searches do not require a login. Research into the app endpoint identified the agency as Wake County Sheriff's Office, agency id 384. The same Police-to-Citizen portal also carries public-safety modules such as Event Search, Daily Bulletin, Event Map, Contact Us, Residential Security Check, Sex Offenders, and Commendation / Complaint. The active jail path for custody lookup is Inmate Inquiry; the Recent Arrests module was present in the software bundle but was not enabled for Wake's live agency endpoint.
P2C should be treated as the first stop for current Wake County Sheriff's Office custody, not as a complete statewide or federal confinement index. The roster does not include people who have already moved into North Carolina Department of Adult Correction custody after state sentencing. It also does not replace the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator, the ICE Online Detainee Locator System, NC SAVAN/VINE custody notifications, court records, or a Wake County NextRequest public-records request. If a person is not listed, reasonable next checks include release, name spelling, transfer to NC DAC, federal or immigration custody, a court docket, or a direct records request.

The image is useful because it shows the public-facing search path that connects Wake County names, arrest dates, and charge details to the roster process described below.
How to Use the Wake County Inmate Roster
Open the Wake P2C Inmate Inquiry and begin with the simplest name query. A last name is usually the strongest first filter, especially when the first name may be abbreviated, misspelled, hyphenated, or entered differently at booking. The roster sorts public results by arrest date descending and paginates the list. The default page size in the app was 10 during research, while the app can internally cap larger result calls.
- Open the P2C Inmate Inquiry rather than a general web search result.
- Enter the last name first. Add the first or middle name only when the result set is too broad.
- Use Advanced filters for age, charge, arrest date, race, or sex when a common surname returns too many matches.
- Sort or scan by arrest date if the goal is the newest booking or a same-day custody check.
- Open or expand the result to review charges, court date, expected release date when present, primary charge, charge-level bond data, and total bond amount.
- If no result appears, move through the fallback chain: call the jail, check NC DAC, register or search through VINE, review court records, check BOP or ICE when appropriate, or submit a NextRequest request.
Wake County Roster Search Fields
The P2C search criteria inspected on June 23, 2026 showed a broad field set. The unrestricted public mode did not display visible required markers for the main text fields, which means a user can start broadly and then narrow the result list. Race and sex are controlled values, while charge searches are free text and may match charge wording or statute-like strings.

Visible controls included a simple text search, an Advanced button, a filter side navigation, a sort dropdown, Clear All for selected filters, Load More when additional results were available, and a result count label that reports how many records were found.
What a Wake County Inmate Profile Shows
A public Wake P2C response inspected on June 23, 2026 returned a sample record with name, demographic fields, physical description, arrest date, court date, primary charge, charges, and bond information. Some fields exist in the system but are turned off in Wake's public display settings, including holding facility, booking agency, arresting agency, date of birth display, home address, traits, scars, marks, tattoos, property, arrest notes, and release reason. The current public roster sample also returned ShowImages false and ImageId null.

Finding County, State, Federal, and Immigration Inmates
Custody lookup in Wake County works only when the right system is used. Wake P2C covers current county jail custody. NC DAC criminal offender searches cover sentenced state prisoners, probationers, and parolees, and DAC states that its offender search does not include county jail information. NC SAVAN/VINE provides free, confidential custody notifications across county jail, state prison, probation, parole, and registered sex-offender statuses. The BOP inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present. The ICE locator covers people currently in ICE custody and can be searched by A-number or by name, country of birth, and birth date.

Wake County Detention Facilities and Related Custody Locations
Wake County's adult detention system is operated by the Wake County Sheriff's Office Detention Division. The county reports two adult detention facilities with 1,574 total official beds. The Detention Center at Hammond Road is the main arrest-processing site, while the Public Safety Center is the downtown detention and public-safety facility. Wake County also has three North Carolina state prisons within Raleigh and one BOP Residential Reentry Management field office serving the region; those are not county booking jails.

Booking Process in Wake County
Wake County routes arrest processing to the Wake County Detention Center at 3301 Hammond Road. The official facility page states that all arrest processing occurs at that location. A practical intake sequence is arrest by a law-enforcement officer, transport to the Detention Center, identification and booking, property inventory, medical or mental-health screening, fingerprinting and photographing through the jail and CCBI workflow, magistrate review where required, bond or release-condition decision, roster entry, and classification or housing if the person is not released.
New roster records can be incomplete while the court side of the case catches up. North Carolina practice allows a person to appear on the jail roster with arrest or booking charges before the prosecutor has finalized formal court charges. The Wake sample record included an arrest date, court date, charge status, docket number for some charges, and bond type, bond status, and bond amount. One observed bond type was pending while awaiting magistrate action, so same-day results should be verified by phone or court records when release conditions matter.
Medical screening is part of Wake custody. Wake's detention information says medical staff are on duty around the clock, and North Carolina G.S. 153A-225 requires each local confinement facility operator to maintain a medical-care plan that protects prisoner health, addresses contagious disease, and provides medical supervision and emergency care. Wake also reports that each inmate receives three meals daily and that a professional dietitian approves menus under North Carolina standards.
Visitation Hours and Rules
Wake County visitation is by video at the Wake County Detention Center, 3301 Hammond Road, Raleigh. The published schedule allows visits Monday through Thursday, with two daily time blocks, and no visits on county holidays unless an exception is made. Each inmate receives one 30-minute visit each week. Two visitors may visit at the same time, either two adults or one adult and one child. Visitors age 16 and older need government-issued picture identification, and visitors under 16 must be accompanied by someone 18 or older.

Wake also publishes conduct rules. Contraband attempts can be prosecuted, visitors must follow dress regulations, disruptive or intoxicated visitors can lose privileges, visits end when staff advise that time has expired, and visitors may not enter other facility areas. Only officer-registered visitors may visit, and refusal to provide requested information can lead to denial.
Mail, Phone, and Contact with a Wake County Inmate
Wake uses digitized personal mail. Personal mail should be addressed with the facility name, inmate name, inmate identifier, P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. Wake's example uses "Wake County Detention NC; John Smith, #000123456; P.O. Box 247; Phoenix, MD 21131." The full facility name and state, the inmate's unique identifier, the sender's full name, and a physical return address must be included.
Legal mail uses different local addresses. For John H. Baker Public Safety Center, address legal mail to the inmate's full name, Public Safety Center, Post Office 2419, Raleigh, NC 27602. For Wake County Detention Center, address legal mail to the inmate's full name, Wake County Detention Center, P.O. Box 2479, Raleigh, NC 27602-2479. State prison communications are separate: NC DAC uses ViaPath/GTL for tablets and telephone services and has its own mail and TextBehind rules.
Commissary and Inmate Funds
Wake does not accept property or money at the Visitation Center. Family and friends can use public kiosks at John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center, 330 S Salisbury St, Raleigh, or at the Wake County Detention Center first-floor visitation glass window, 3301 Hammond Road, Raleigh. The published kiosk schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cash kiosk deposits are available immediately.

When to Use NextRequest, the Sheriff App, or Direct Contact
Wake County's public-record request portal is NextRequest. Use it for booking records, booking photographs, or arrest-related records that are not shown through P2C. A request should include the full name, date of arrest or booking if known, case or docket number if known, arresting agency, and a narrow description of the record sought. North Carolina G.S. 132-6 requires custodians to permit inspection and provide copies as promptly as possible, but G.S. 132-1.4 protects many criminal-investigation and criminal-intelligence records from general disclosure.
The Wake Co Sheriffs Office app is another official access channel. The Apple and Google listings describe reporting crimes, submitting tips, interactive features, public-safety news, and information. Research found a Wake Sheriff's public note that users can check civil-process status and find jail information on the app home page. The app should be treated as a convenient official information channel and alert tool, not as a documented replacement for P2C, NC DAC, VINE, court records, BOP, ICE, or NextRequest.
